Before we go into the movie review of day shift, Monster movies have been a significant part of cinema, it is impossible for Hollywood to thrive without this genre as it blends its fantasy with a little humor for the audience to have a good time while seeing it.
This year several movies that features vampires and monsters have been set to be released or have been released already.
Monster movies like morbius that premiered in April received bad reviews which was a huge disappointment to the audience because of the high anticipation it had.
Another monster movie that was released on august 25th is The Invitation, Day shift is much of an upgrade to the usual monster movies as it brings the excitement to the audience with the stuntman J.J perry behind the camera, viewers definitely had a good experience with this one.
The story a vampire hunter bud jablonski who is played by jamie foxx wants to be an outstanding father to his daughter paige who is played by zoe broadnax by providing all she needs and being there for her, his mundane pool job is just a front for his main job which is vampire hunting and slaying.
He has been finding it hard hunting down vampires especially after he was kicked out of a vampire union, so he find another means of providing for his family he sells vampire fangs to black market dealers.
He faces more trouble as the money he gets from the sale is not enough as his ex-wife Jocelyn who is played by Meagan good is threatening to move their daughter to Florida for financial stability and good home upbringing.
It does not just end there as the the most dangerous vampire in southern California Audrey who is played by karia souza is after his life and wants revenge after he hunted and killed her relative and sold the fangs to a black market dealer.
He faces more trouble as the union refuses to accept him back then his friend big john an og in the business who is played by snoop dogg helps him to beg the chief in charge then he is pardoned only on one condition.
If he attaches a novice seth who is played by dave franco to him to monitor his every move and report immediately if he fails to abide to the rules and regulations of the union.
The return of vampires to the big screen started on a mediocre note, this year’s disappointing releases gave the genre a bad impression but thanks to J.J. Perry’s day shift, the genre reputation has been restored and looks very superior.

But the plot is not complete as the main character bud jablonski does not have a complete background story and the reason why there is an army terrorizing south California and their origin, but it is expected that there will be some enlightenment along the way.
The screen writers tyler and shay hatten put these concepts all through their script expecting the audience to understand and catch up easily while taking in some not very common upgrades to traditional vampire lore.
Their sublime script is very familiar but also very creative, and it also has a never seen before script which has given the genre a new look that it really seeks for
The director J.J. Perry who is a well known stunt man have been in the business for more than 30 years, he has also been an assistant director, he has done a great job in this movie and it is a huge feat for someone of his status.
This movie earned a significant progression which he brings in a good camera work to the screen, he showcases the fierceness of fight choreography and intensifies it, his passion for stunts greatly impacts the way he made this film.
It shows every amazing scene of action which makes it impossible not to applaud the immense work that has been done, his stuntman ability does not stop him from shooting action packed scenes while catching great comedy within.
Actually the high praise for this fantastic picture does not end there, a good soundtrack comes with the cool, calm collected ibewhich is established by bud jablonski, but one of the most important part of the film is the chemistry between bud jablonski and seth.
No one expected such buddy paring between these two, we have seen lots of buddy action comedy movies in which an unlikely pairing leads to very funny moments and becomes the topic of discussion of the movie.
It is actually the same here as this chemistry is beyond expectation as dave franco is humorous all through the movie which will keep the viewers antsy for more of this duo. Plus his anxiety made every scene nice, funny and adventurous.
