Google Messages will finally let you disable pinch-to-zoom

Google’s aggressive pushing of its Messages app has led to its placement as the major messaging (SMS and RCS) app for a lot of Android phones, this feature is not exclusive to Pixels. Meanwhile it’s quite amazing, there exist also a few quirks. One of those includes its pinch-to-zoom support, and while  that suited as  technically a feature of the app, a lot of users are not happy with how it works at the moment. Hopefully, Google is recently test running a toggle to switch it off.

These messages permits you to make texts bigger and more seamless to read by just pinching, like will normally zoom in on an image. For a few folks, that can be officially helpful. But in a case of emergency, the app did not provide a user with an option to turn it off.

The most recent Google Messages beta adds a switch to disable pinch-to-zoom text in Settings, this can help for some. They is a confirmation that this toggle is now in an A/B testing stage, and it was also noted by 9to5Google on a pull down. As soon as it is enabled, the app stops responding  to the pinching action to adjust the text size. Disabling the toggle will lock the font size as well to wherever you had it, so if you’re happy with a particular setting, you can put them in that way.

While pinch-to-zoom text in google messages seems to be genuinely helpful, especially for users that need a visual aid, for some other people it’s more likely that the proposed feature is activated mistakenly, something which can, and also does, cause confusion. If you want to make use of this toggle, Ensure that you’re enrolled in the Google Messages app beta, and that the app is fully updated. This can also increase your chances by keeping app’s cache clear. Or just hold on, it should not  be so much longer until it gets to everyone’s phones.
