Seems like Spotify’s HiFi tier isn’t coming anytime soon.
Spotify which is a trendy music platform has first revealed its intentions to launch a new HiFi tier that will be used by end users for their subscription service in February of last year. The intention of this was to provide Premium subscribers with first grade premium quality, first grade music will be currently accessed for an additional price. This initiative was supposed to have been launched before the end of 2021, but as you can tell it’s already 2022 and it did not happen. The launch is now looking deeper than ever because Spotify has refused to give a new hint.

Spotify Community forums (via 9to5Mac) has given a response that the company stated that Spotify HiFi will still work, but the information was not given in details as a possible release date was not given as well. Stating this in another way, a launch will obviously not happen anytime soon, so hold your breath.
Spotify is experiencing a lot of pressure to bring this feature, especially now that they have a lot of competitors in the market. Apple Music has recently added a spatial audio feature last year, while Tidal has offered MQA music in its catalog since 2017. What’s interesting is that in the case of Apple Music, the upgrades are done for free for already existing subscribers, which makes it more enticing than Spotify’s current proposal an additional cost on top of the existing Premium subscription. Together with the fact that both Apple Music and Spotify are both $10 a month, the previous suddenly becomes the better deal.
The reason behind the delay has not be categorically stated. Popular guesses is that Apple Music’s pattern to lossless music made Spotify rethink its own, so it recently requires a little bit more time to brood. Spotify still remains one of the world’s most popular music streaming apps, it won’t take long before the race for hifi streaming becomes a catch-up game. Let’s keep ourfingers crossed.

Well, I’m sure they have their reason for not releasing the much expected upgrade. As much as people are expecting it, the company has to first ensure everyrhing is in order before releasing it.
