While it is difficult to know exactly what will happen to the smartphone industry in 2023, it is still possible to make well-founded guesses as companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung are mostly follow the same launch process every year.
For example, the iPhone 15 series is expected to launch in September – possibly charging with USB-C for the first time.
If Samsung maintains its typical release cycle, the Galaxy S23 will be one of the first new phones we see in 2023.
Such launches will come after the smartphone space makes small but important strides in 2022.

The introduction of USB-C charging is expected in Apple’s next-generation iPhones.
One of the biggest changes in The European Union recently mandated that all new phones sold in the region support USB-C charging by 2024.
Apple said it would comply with these rules, but didn’t specify if that meant that from 2020 he would move to USB-C by 2023. It remains a European model.
Otherwise, there could be periodic changes such as some camera upgrades and new processors.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities makes predictions about upcoming Apple products.
Apple said it could do more to differentiate the iPhone 15 Pro from the regular iPhone 15.
The iPhone 14th generation has already taken a step in this direction, retaining features like Dynamic Island and the new A16 Bionic processor exclusive to the Pro line.
But what’s more interesting is that Apple is planning to launch the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max The idea is to further differentiate the iPhone 15 Pro from the smaller iPhone 15 Pro, Kuo said.
The main difference between the regular Pro and Pro Max is the screen size.
Giving the Pro Max a few extra perks could further encourage buyers to buy Apple’s biggest (and most expensive) iPhone.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also believes Apple may rename his iPhone Pro Max to iPhone Ultra in the future to better work with other products such as the Apple Watch Ultra.
Reasons to be excited:
The long-awaited move from the iPhone to USB-C is arguably the biggest reason to expect Apple’s next smartphone.
With this switch, an iPhone user will finally be able to charge his iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same type of charging cable, reducing friction and making the iPhone more convenient.
I would also like to know if Apple will further differentiate the iPhone 15 Pro Max from the iPhone 15 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy S23
What we expect:
Based on rumors, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 could feature notable improvements to the camera and design – two areas that are usually the focus of the Korean tech giant.
The rumored Galaxy S23 Ultra could include a 200-megapixel main camera, according to an ardent Ice Universe supporter on Twitter.
That seems like a huge leap over the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s main 108-megapixel sensor in theory.
But it’s important to remember that factors like sensor size and speed also play a huge role in image quality.
According to Ice Universe, the new 200-megapixel sensor is said to be only slightly larger than the iPhone 14 Pro’s sensor and slightly smaller than other Android flagships.
Samsung could also give the regular Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus a design tweaked to better suit the Ultra model.
Images from reliable leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer suggest that Samsung will remove the camera protrusion from the S23 and S23 Plus, replacing it with the convex lens found on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The images were published on the technology blogs Digit and Smartprix in partnership with Hemmerstoffer.
While we don’t know exactly what to expect in terms of performance, Samsung often integrates Qualcomm’s latest mobile chips into newer versions of phones launched in the US and some other markets.
This means we’ll likely see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in Samsung’s next Galaxy phone.
The new chip offers better power efficiency, ray tracing for improved aesthetics in mobile games, and improved AI that can separate you from the background Better Zoom, plus improvements another advance.
Analyst Kuo even suggested that Samsung could ditch its own Exynos processor and rely solely on Qualcomm for the Galaxy S23.
Why I’m excited about it:
Smartphone cameras have become so sophisticated that I’m curious to know if Samsung’s 200-megapixel sensor really makes a meaningful difference.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how Samsung elevates the camera experience in the S23 lineup given the increased competition from Google’s Pixel line in recent years.

Google Pixel 7A
What we expect:
If Google keeps up with its tradition, a cheaper version of the Pixel 7 known as the Pixel 7A could arrive in the spring or summer.
However, developer Kuba Wojciechowski claims he’s discovered details in the Android codebase that could affect the Pixel 7A, suggesting a fairly significant upgrade is coming.
Wojciechowski’s findings suggest that the Pixel 7A could feature his higher 90Hz refresh rate screen and wireless charging.
A leaked rendering by Hemmerstoffer, reposted on Smartprix, also suggests that the Pixel 7A will have a very similar design to its predecessor.
The Pixel 7A could also feature his Tensor G2 processor, the same as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, and a camera setup that includes wide and ultra-wide sensors.
That is, of course, if the Pixel 7A follows in the same footsteps as the Pixel 6A.
Why We’re Excited:
Google’s A-series Pixel smartphones are pretty good for the price.
If Google can fix some of the Pixel 6A’s shortcomings and keep the same $449 price tag, it’ll be an even stronger challenger to Samsung in the affordable smartphone space.
