Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera To Have A New Periscope With Continuous Zoom.

Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone has the best cameras right now. So Galaxy S22 Ultra, its successor, will have big shoes to fill in.

A reliable industry has claimed that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature a new type periscope camera with continuous zoom.

Samsung Electromechanics and Samsung LSI (system large-scale integration) have been reported to jointly develop this in-house zoom camera for the upcoming phone.

There’s one major limitation of the current generation of periscope and telephoto zoom cameras and that’s, they have fixed lenses. They can offer only one optical zoom level per se.

That’s why the Galaxy S21 Ultra has two telephoto zoom lenses (3x and 10x). For other zoom levels, say 5x for instance, the phone combines the 3x lens with digital zoom.

Samsung intends fixing this issue with a new type of periscope camera that boasts continuous zoom capabilities. This means the camera should be able to move freely and not have a fixed lens, delivering optical zoom at all levels up to its maximum zoom level.

This will allow users to capture scenes with the same quality at any magnification level, without showing any artifacts or losing clarity and sharpness.

Sony showed a glimpse of this technology with the Xperia 1 III that was launched recently.

Nevertheless, its periscope camera doesn’t really offer continuous zoom but two native zoom levels at 3x and 4.4x. The smartphone camera battle between Samsung and Sony is heating up nicely as Samsung is taking this implementation to a whole new level.
